Hello everyone! A little over a month ago, I got the chance to travel to the capitol of New York State, Albany. There, I got the honor to be part of a couple of students who represented high education in our community college, but also represent all community colleges in the state of New York.

When I first graduated from high school, I didn't know what I wanted to do with my life or where I wanted to go to college. Many of my "back then" friends went away to college and all that fun stuff, but I love my neighbors and my community and I didn't want to go far from it, specially since I was just starting to know them.

After, deciding to enroll in my local community college, my life completely change. When I started, I continued developing Javiortiz.com, and along the way, helping my community by enjoying local organizations and even ending up creating my own.

Our mission for traveling to Albany, was to advocating for education and let New York State government, know the importance of education in both, regular education and high education, especially the importance of community colleges in the state.

After meeting with congressmen and legaslatives of the state, specking to them and asking them about what they thought of community colleges, It's surprisingly on how much they know and take in notice the importance of them. But the big question is, why do they want to reduce the budget they have for education for the next coming year? That's a question I still ask myself till this day.

But after all, I was proud to be there representing my community and college. And it was nice to know that everything is possible when you speak up and embrace your voice. That's all for today and I'll see you all in my next post.

Hola a todos! Un poco más de un mes, tuve la oportunidad de viajar a la capital del Estado de Nueva York, Albany. No, tengo el honor de ser parte de una pareja de estudiantes que representaron a alta educación en nuestro colegio de la comunidad, sino que también representan todos los colegios de la comunidad en el estado de Nueva York.

La primera vez que se graduó de la escuela secundaria, yo no sabía lo que quería hacer con mi vida o de donde yo quería ir a la universidad. Muchos de mis amigos "en ese entonces" se fue a la universidad y todas esas cosas divertidas, pero me encanta que mis vecinos y mi comunidad y yo no quería ir muy lejos de él, especialmente desde que estaba empezando a conocerlos.

Después, la decisión de inscribirse en mi universidad local, mi vida cambió por completo. Cuando empecé, yo continué desarrollando Javiortiz.com, y en el camino, ayudando a mi comunidad, disfrutando de las organizaciones locales e incluso llegando a crear mi propia.

Nuestra misión para viajar a Albany, fue la defensa de la educación y dejar que el gobierno del estado de Nueva York, conocer la importancia de la educación en tanto, la educación regular y educación superior, sobre todo en la importancia de los colegios comunitarios en el estado.

Después de reunirse con congresistas y legaslatives del estado, specking a ellos y preguntarles sobre lo que pensaban de colegios de la comunidad, es sorprendente la cantidad que saben y toman en la nota de la importancia de ellos. Pero la gran pregunta es, ¿por qué quieren reducir el presupuesto que tienen para la educación para el próximo año que viene? Esa es una pregunta que todavía me pregunto hasta este día.

Pero después de todo, estaba orgulloso de estar allí en representación de mi comunidad y la universidad. Y fue bueno saber que todo es posible cuando se habla y abrazar a su voz. Eso es todo por hoy y voy a ver todos ustedes en mi próximo post.
