Do brand labels matter?

I was recently gifted this fur coat and the first thought that came to mind was the song Thrift Shop by Macklemore. This got me thinking about those moments when I get asked about the items I wear and the surprised look on people's faces when I tell they're from affordable stores.

There's this big reputation for fashion bloggers to wear high-end clothes at all times. Though that is a great career achievement, it has also created a wrong expectation of the job. When I decided to focus my blog on fashion, my goal was and it has always been to showcase and advertise high looks at a reasonable price. Because not only do I believe you can look like a million bucks without expending a million bucks, but also because I can relate. I once too couldn't afford those items and made the promise to myself to always keep my blog focused on bringing high-end looks at affordable prices even if I could afford more.

Throughout my career, I had to deal with those expectations to have to wear high-brand items to fulfill the title of a fashion blogger. And most times, people made me feel no less for wearing items that may have been thrifted or purchased on sale, but honestly, they wouldn't have ever known if I wouldn't have been honest about where I got them. Funny enough it has proven to me that money doesn't buy taste, and it's amazing how many people think by wearing labels makes people think they're more qualified to society than those who don't.

But just because something is expensive or affordable doesn't mean it's good. Yeah, high-end items might be better quality but the more I learn about the fashion industry is - or in life in general -  nothing really is as it seems. High fashion and fast fashion come with their own positive and negative outcomes. Sometimes you'll be surprised to learn there's a very fine line between them both. Which makes personal style important when it comes to what you wear and expressing who you are.

It's been a while since I dress up in a fancy look and after receiving this fur coat, I wanted to feel an elegant vibe. Of course, most of the items I'm wearing on this editorial are either gifted or purchased on sale. Because there's nothing like vibing on a good sale catch.
